- We will need 2 check-in volunteers for each session
- We will need 12 judges for each session
- No experience is needed, and we will do a judges meeting prior to the start of the competition so you will have all the information needed
Format:
- Modified Redpoint
- Each category will be assigned 6 boulders that they are competing on. Each boulder is weighted equally (even though some might be easier/harder than others). You are only allowed on your category's boulders.
- On each boulder, you have a maximum on 10 attempts. Once you have tried the boulder 10 times, you are no longer allowed to try it again.
- You are free to choose when you try each boulder within the 3 hour competition. So you can put in all your attempts on one boulder then move on, or try it a few times and come back to it later.
- On each boulder there will be 2 scored holds - the zone, and the top. The zone will be somewhere in between the start and the top hold. To secure the zone, you must "control" the hold with just one hand. To secure the top, you must "control" the hold with both hands. Control is defined as - the intentional management of a climber's position and movement.
- If you are on the wall when the competition ends, you may finish your attempt.
Scoring:
- Scoring will be based on number of tops, number of zones, attempts to top, and attempts to zone, in this exact order. Here is an example
- Climber A topped 4 boulders in 6 attempts, and zoned 6 boulders in 10 attempts
- Their score will look like this - 4T6 6Z10 where the first number is their number of tops, followed by a T denoting "tops", the second number is their attempts to top, followed by a space, the third number is their number of zones, followed by a Z denoting "zones", and the fourth number is their attempts to zone)
- Climber B topped 4 boulders in 8 attempts, and zoned 5 boulders in 6 attempts
- Their score will look like this - 4T8 5Z6
- Climber A has a higher score than Climber B because Climber A has more zones than Climber B.
- If a competitor tops a boulder, they have also zoned said boulder (AKA your number of zones is always equal or greater than number of tops)
- All competitors scores will be ranked against others in their category
Competition rules:
- Each competitor will get a scoring card. This will have your name, category, team, and all of your boulders on it
- To try a boulder, find the respective judge for the boulder you want to try. Give them your scoring card to put yourself in line. Once it is your turn they will call your name and you may try the boulder. Once your attempt is finished, you may choose to take your card and go to a different boulder, or ask the judge to put you back in line to try the boulder again. You will only get one attempt before you must go back in line.
- Only judges will sign off on boulders and write on your scoring card, no athlete signatures needed
- Beta - you may communicate with coaches or fellow competitors before and after each attempt, but you may not give or receive beta while you/or another athlete is on the wall
- Do not say things like "breathe" or "get your foot up!" or "just reach for it"
- You can say words of encouragement. Things like "you got this" or "come on" or nice!" are acceptable
- Judging/scoring/appeals - find Coach Niko if you have a scoring dispute you would like to go over. We will not have an official appeal document, and will go on a case-by-case basis. If there is no video evidence of a dispute, we will go by judge/coach ruling, and Niko will have the final say.
